Mr. Haffey has over twenty-two years of experience in the aerospace/defense and power generation industries. He has been an NIC NDE technician at various military bases and commercial power generation sites. He currently serves as our Aviation NDT Level III Supervisor and Chief Inspector at the headquarters in Ft. Myers Fl., a NADCAP certified facility.

His career began as a working manager of Plasma Spray operations in an FAR-145 Repair Station. He moved into quality assurance and NDT and became L-II certified in PT, RT, EC, UT, VT and RVI (borescope) inspections. Charlie continued his career as the Radiation Safety Officer, NDT and Thermal Spray supervisor, as well as the point of contact for the FAA, as he helped create a new company that quickly obtained their FAR-145 Repair Station Certificate.

Prior to re-joining NIC in 2014, Charlie had been employed the past 14 years in the Materials & Processes Engineering (MPE) group within Pratt & Whitney. His experience includes Phased Array UT (Contact and Immersion), Eddy Current (contact and XYZ Scanning), and Ultra High Sensitivity Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection with high magnification evaluations and documentations. Charlie performed UV Borescope and RVI on military aircraft. He obtained his ASNT Level III in penetrant testing and administered Probability of Detection evaluations on vendors and in-house inspectors. The MPE group was responsible for the development and implementation of NDE for NASA’s Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) turbo pumps, as well as a variety of military and commercial aircraft engines worldwide.
